• Who is All Good?

  All Good is a Kiwi-owned brand that brought Aotearoa New Zealand its first Fairtrade bananas. Three New Zealanders, brothers Chris and Matt Morrison and Simon Coley, founded it in 2008 because the banana industry had a shocking record on how it treated growers. The first bunches landed in 2010. More than 50 million bunches later, All Good has pioneered ethical bananas in New Zealand.

  

• What makes All Good Bananas different from other bananas?

  Every banana All Good sells is Fairtrade certified. Not some of the range, all of it. Some brands sell a Fairtrade line alongside their standard non-Fairtrade fruit. Our bananas also carry one of the lowest carbon footprints of any fruit sold in New Zealand. Most bananas on the shelf come off industrial plantations built on chemicals and underpaid labour. Ours come from a co-operative of small family farms who get paid properly for their work.

• Are All Good Bananas organic?

  All Good sells an Organic Fairtrade range grown to full organic standards, alongside a standard Fairtrade range that is not certified organic. Even so, that standard fruit is grown with far fewer chemicals than conventional bananas. El Guabo uses weed-eaters instead of chemical weed-killers, makes its own organic fertilisers on site at a bio-fermentary, and Fairtrade rules ban more than 120 toxic substances outright.

  One quirk worth knowing: even our certified organic fruit loses its official organic status on arrival, because New Zealand law requires all imported fruit to be fumigated at the border. Nothing changes on the farm, which is why you’ll see us say organically grown rather than organic.

• What does Fairtrade actually mean for the growers?

  Fairtrade means growers are paid an audited minimum price for their fruit, plus a Fairtrade Premium that goes into a communal fund they control themselves. All Good pays above that minimum. The stable income lets growers plan ahead and invest, and the premium is entirely theirs to direct. El Guabo’s growers have put it into schools, a medical centre and community infrastructure.

  It also sets hard rules on how people are treated. Fairtrade bans forced labour, child labour and more than 120 toxic substances. Growers have unions, proper health and safety procedures and equitable working conditions. All of it is independently audited, which is the only way a claim like this can be verified rather than just asserted.

  

• Where do All Good Bananas come from?

  All Good Bananas are grown in El Guabo, Ecuador, by the El Guabo Association of Small Banana Farmers, a co-operative of small family growers. We went looking for growers who farmed the good way rather than the cheap way, and El Guabo is where we found them. Same families, same farms, since 2010.

• How much has All Good given back to growers?

  Kiwis buying All Good Bananas have put more than $4 million into the El Guabo grower community, all of it directed by the growers themselves. It has built a medical centre treating over 2,000 people a year with free check-ups, dental care and eye tests, supported 30 schools across El Guabo, and funded classrooms, toilets, clean water and playgrounds. It also covers school enrolment costs and more than 1,200 school bags each year.

• What is the carbon footprint of an All Good Banana?

  An All Good banana has a footprint of 0.48kg CO₂e per kilo, dropping to 0.38kg for our Organic Fairtrade fruit. That covers the whole journey, from the inputs used on the plantations through to shipping out of Ecuador and trucking to New Zealand warehouses and supermarkets. It’s lower than a New Zealand grown apple, and a long way below local kiwifruit, milk or meat. We also print that footprint on nearly every bunch we sell, which as far as we know no other banana company in the world does.

• What is the All Good banana tape made of?

  Paper. All Good is the first banana bunch in New Zealand to swap the plastic tape for paper. It took years to get there, with a lot of testing, failing, adjusting and testing again before we had a tape that holds a bunch together, survives the trip from Ecuador and still peels off cleanly. It’s live across the South Island now and rolling out through the North Island during 2026.

• How do I recycle the All Good paper tape?

  Stick it to a piece of cardboard and put the cardboard in your kerbside recycling. Small scraps of paper fall straight through the sorting machinery at recycling plants, so giving the tape something bigger to travel on is what gets it actually recycled rather than lost along the way.
